Generalized Varying-CoeÆcient Models

چکیده
This paper deals with statistical inferences based on the generalized varying-coeÆcient models proposed by Hastie and Tibshirani (1993). Local polynomial regression techniques are used to estimate coeÆcient functions and the asymptotic normality of the resulting estimators is established. The standard error formulas for estimated coeÆcients are derived and are empirically tested. A goodness-oft test technique, based on a nonparametric maximum likelihood ratio type of test, is also proposed to detect whether certain coeÆcient functions in a varyingcoeÆcient model are constant or whether any covariates are statistically signi cant in the model. The null distribution of the test is estimated by a conditional bootstrap method. Our estimation techniques involve solving hundreds of local likelihood equations. To reduce computation burden, a one-step Newton-Raphson estimator is proposed and implemented. We show that the resulting one-step procedure can save computational cost in an order of tens without deteriorating its performance, both asymptotically and empirically. Both simulated and real data examples are used to illustrate our proposed methodology.

متن کاملReliable Computation of Homogeneous Azeotropes
The determination of the existence and composition of homogeneous azeotropes is important both from both theoretical and practical standpoints in the analysis of phase behavior and in the synthesis and design of separation systems. We present here a new method for reliably locating any and all homogeneous azeotropes for multicomponent mixtures. The method also veri es the nonexistence of homoge...
متن کاملBayesian Inference for Spatial Beta Generalized Linear Mixed Models
In some applications, the response variable assumes values in the unit interval. The standard linear regression model is not appropriate for modelling this type of data because the normality assumption is not met. Alternatively, the beta regression model has been introduced to analyze such observations. A beta distribution represents a flexible density family on (0, 1) interval that covers symm...
متن کاملFractional Order Generalized Thermoelastic Functionally Graded Solid with Variable Material Properties
In this work, a new mathematical model of thermoelasticity theory has been considered in the context of a new consideration of heat conduction with fractional order theory. A functionally graded isotropic unbounded medium is considered subjected to a periodically varying heat source in the context of space-time non-local generalization of three-phase-lag thermoelastic model and Green-Naghdi mod...
متن کاملImage Enhancement and Denoising by Complex Di usion Processes
The linear and nonlinear scale spaces are generalized in the complex domain, by combining the di usion equation with the simpli ed Schr odinger equation. A fundamental solution for the linear case is developed. Preliminary analysis of the complex di usion shows that the generalized di usion has properties of both forward and inverse di usion. An important observation, supported theoretically a...
